The South Korean government has imposed sanctions on 11 individuals and 15 legal entities involved in military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.
The sanctions include high-ranking officials of the DPRK army, whose units are involved in the war against Ukraine, and a North Korean missile engineer. The sanctions list also includes Russian companies and banks involved in arms trade and illicit financial transactions between Russia and the DPRK, the supply of missile materials and technologies, etc.
The sanctions were part of a coordinated response by South Korea, the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the EU to Russia's military cooperation with North Korea.
In October 2024, NAKO published an analysis of Western components in the North Korean KN-23/24 missile that was shot down by the Ukrainian military in the Poltava region in September 2024. NAKO experts identified microelectronics from at least nine Western manufacturers – from the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
