For the first time, Japan has imposed sanctions on a number of companies for supporting Russia's war in Ukraine. These companies purchase or import microelectronics used by the Russian military. Tokyo believes that those on the list are helping Russia circumvent restrictions imposed by Europe and the United States.
The Japanese press claims that Tokyo is now taking a tougher stance against Moscow than any other government in Asia where most countries have refused to take sides in the conflict.
In total, the sanctions list includes 50 individuals and legal entities from China and 4 other countries, including Russia. Japan will freeze their assets and restrict payments and capital transactions.
The list includes names and companies that NAKO has previously mentioned in its researches and reports:
- Boris Obnosov, director of the Russian Rocket Corporation;
- Alexandr Potapov, director of Uralvagonzavod;
- Topaz, a manufacturer of aviation equipment;
- Uraltransmash, which produces military equipment;
- TORDAN INDUSTRY LIMITED, a supplier of critical components from Hong Kong.
