There was no breakthrough, but the support from member countries of the alliance is palpable – this is how Olena Tregub, Executive Director of NAKO, summarized the results of one of the world’s most influential gatherings. She participated in the NATO Public Forum, an event that takes place in parallel with the summit and is attended by summit speakers, as well as engaging in a series of meetings on the sidelines of the event.
Among the key achievements of the event, Olena highlights that partners adopted the term “inevitability” in the context of Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“This is very positive, it is a good word. Now all NATO members have reached a consensus – that Ukraine will be in NATO, and this is an irreversible path. I heard that some countries were even against this word, and those who support us more actively managed to ‘push through’ this formulation,” noted Tregub.
At the same time, according to the Executive Director of NAKO, the partners’ decisions lack specific calendar dates. Currently, the discussion is about providing air defense systems, weapons, and 40 billion euros. There is some clarity only regarding the transfer of F-16 aircraft – Ukraine is expected to receive them at the end of summer.
