Much was riding on phone call between Trump and Putin on 18 March 2025. Trump wants movement from Moscow on the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. This as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Putin of dragging his heels in responding to the US proposal.
Speaking on France24, NAKO Executive Director Olena Tregub discussed the phone call and the way forward for Ukraine. “It’s very dangerous for Trump to negotiate with Putin because he will end up losing more than gaining. Trump already put himself in a weak positition when he gave to Russia too much and right now he put himself under pressure about his own deadline to finish the war which he promised,” she stressed.
