Military budget is growing but manufacturers survive due to export – expert
Ukraine is losing its traditional arms markets, where it was leading earlier due to cheaper and easier samples.
As NAKO military expert and analyst Oleksandr Saienko explained to Fokus media, there is a growing demand for high-tech arms around the world.

Even countries that couldn’t afford it in the past are now interested and purchasing. So Ukrainian producers should be able to offer what they are looking for. Ukraine needs such high-tech arms, too.

Ukraine currently maintains 12th position in the world for the amount of arms exports. According to SIPRI, our share amounted to 0.9% in 2021.
To keep even this small share in the market, national manufacturers should work hard to produce competitive high-tech arms. To facilitate this, reforms should be implemented so that large investments could enter the Ukrainian defence sector.

“In July 2021, the Verkhovna Rada approved draft law No.3822, providing the basis for transforming Ukroboronprom into transparent companies with corporate governance according to international standards. It is crucial for national security, Euro-Atlantic integration, and increasing the defence industry’s competitiveness,” noted Oleksandr Saienko.
