Experts suggest to replace free defence housing with the monetary compensation model
Currently there are more than 47 thousand service men and women in the defence housing queue. Under the current circumstances, Ukraine will need more than 600 to close the queue.

Realistic solution of this problem could be to carry out the audit of the current housing and the queue, to replace defence housing with the monetary compensation model and carry out further planning based on the real opportunities and needs. These are the conclusions of NAKO’s research, ‘Poor Governance and Corruption in Ukraine’s Defence Housing System: Risks and Recommendations’. “The current law is the old Soviet myth which we should move away from. One should move to the capability planning”, says Dr. Lada Roslycky, NAKO’s Research and Advocacy Manager.
