On 9 December 2019 NAKO partook in the annual Seminar on the development of Ukraine’s defence industry complex organized by the Ministry of Economy, NATO Representation in Ukraine and Ukroboronprom.
The current issues within the defence sector were openly discussed, along with the realistic ways to tackle the challenges. NATO's Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Defense Investment Division Gordon Davis, Head of NATO Representation in Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov, Deputy Minister for Economy Svitlana Panaiotidi, Ukroboronprom’s CEO Aivaras Abromavicius partook in the event. NAKO was represented by Secretary General Olena Tregub.
Olena spoke on the reform of the defence industrial complex, its current status and challenges. She also focused on the reform of defence procurement and explained the advantages of the new draft law on defence procurement which has been developed with NAKO’s active involvement. She informed that from 2013 to 2019 the State defence order (SDO) amount has increased from 120 to 926 mln USD, and that the bill aims to considerably reduce corruption risks within SDO as well as other types of defence procurement.
