In 2022–2024, NAKO focused its efforts on investigating the supply of foreign technology to Russian weapons. We analyzed more than 2,000 components in six models of Russian fighter jets — from the Su-27SM3 to the Su-57 — and found hundreds of Western manufacturers whose chips and electronics are still used by Russia. Similar studies related to North Korean KN-23/24 missiles and Russian guided aerial bombs collected after the shelling of Ukrainian cities.
Thanks to our analytical work and advocacy, 29 individuals and legal entities associated with the Russian military industry were included in the sanctions lists of the EU, Great Britain, and the United States. Some of our recommendations became the basis of these countries’ sanctions policies.
To strengthen coordination, in 2023, NAKO co-founded the Public Council on Sanctions — an independent platform of 13 Ukrainian public organizations working with the authorities to improve the sanctions regime. The Council interacts with the President’s Commissioner for sanctions policy and participates in the development of proposals for Ukraine’s partners.
Our work helps increase sanctions pressure on Axis of Evil states—Russia, Iran, and North Korea—and limit their access to critical technologies they use to wage war.
