On 14–15 November 2025, Kyiv hosted the forum “Government Accountability: Effective Tools for Activists and Journalists”, organized by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR). Yuliia Biehlietsova, Head of Communications at NAKO, joined the panel dedicated to communicating Ukraine’s anti-corruption efforts. She spoke about the challenges of conveying information about corruption cases both inside the country and internationally.
“It is crucial to provide our partners with a full, objective, and balanced picture of what is happening in Ukraine and how such crimes are investigated — while also preserving trust in Ukraine and its institutions, which directly affects security assistance. This is the key challenge, especially against the backdrop of scandals like the Mindich tapes. This case not only revealed a criminal scheme, but also demonstrated why Ukrainians fought to protect NABU and SAPO: these bodies not only operate effectively, but also open cases against individuals from the President’s close circle,” Biehlietsova emphasized.
The panel was moderated by Maryna Bezkorovaina, IWPR Director in Ukraine. Other speakers included:
- Tetiana Shevchuk, Head of International Relations at the Anti-Corruption Action Center (AntAC);
- Anna Babinets, Head of the Investigative Reporting Agency “Slidstvo.Info”/OCCRP;
- Daryna Shevchenko, Executive Director of The Kyiv Independent;
- Andrii Borovyk, Executive Director of Transparency International Ukraine.
The forum brought together around 150 participants from across Ukraine, including investigative journalists, civil society activists, and NGOs involved in public oversight. Over two days and 13 panel discussions, experts examined various aspects of anti-corruption work at national and regional levels, investigative reporting, cooperation with NABU and SAPO, and the use of different tools for civic oversight.
We thank IWPR for the invitation and for highlighting such important issues.
