The ability of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and civil society to monitor public authorities’ activities, policies, and practices is a vital component of democratic governance in the security and defenсe sector.
NAKO seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Ukrainian parliament, to make it more efficient, accountable, and transparent in performing its constitutional duties.
In addition, public scrutiny is an important component of democratic oversight of the security and defence sector. NAKO monitors the activities of public authorities in the security and defence sector, analyzes in detail the initiatives of the legislative and executive branches of government, identifies corruption risks and potential conflicts of interest, and proposes and promotes solutions to minimize them.
