On February 16, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the introduction of automated accounting for military uniforms, gear and spare parts for equipment, based on the SAP system. The project on logistics process automation will be implemented using the German SAP ERP system.
SAP ERP is an enterprise resource planning software package developed and founded in Germany. The system is developed for organizations of various industries. It is designed to support and integrate almost all functional areas of business processes: sales and distribution, finance, accounting, personnel management, production, production planning, procurement of goods and services, logistics, and warehouse management.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov noted:
“We keep introducing automation into the military processes. The full-scale war caused a series of forced adjustments to many of these. Some reforms take more time. And some – on the contrary – are gaining momentum, as they are crucial. One of these urgent changes is the automation of logistics processes, namely, accounting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine using the German SAP ERP system.”
Currently, this system will be used to accomplish two main tasks:
1. Automation of military uniforms and gear accounting;
2. Automation of spare parts and equipment repair module accounting.
Nowadays, the Ukrainian team of SAP specialists comprises mainly persons called up for service. At the same time, according to Reznikov, hard at work is a task force of representatives of NATO member states where armies already use this system.
“The current key task is the fastest implementation. We discuss options with partners. Along with that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Affairs, we are actively looking for donors to help us with computer equipment. Last, but not least: spare parts for the first foreign self-propelled guns are already entered in the system,” said the minister.
