Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk becomes Deputy Minister of Defence

On 11 October, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appointed Brigadier General Serhii Melnyk, who has been in charge of the defence of Kharkiv since the start of the Russia's full-scale invasion, as deputy defence minister. "He will be responsible for education, health, humanitarian aid and human capital policy," said the Defence Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umerov.
After graduating from Kharkiv Military University in 1999, Melnyk served in various positions in Air Defence Brigades. In November 2019, he was appointed head of the Institute of Military Law of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.
Serhii Melnyk is a Doctor of Law and a Military Law Professor, has been honored as a Ukrainian Educator of Distinction, and is a winner of Ukraine's State Prize in Education.
