The United States has added 80 foreign companies to its export blacklist in a bid to limit China's capabilities in artificial intelligence and military technology. Among them are about 50 from China, as well as companies from the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Iran, Taiwan, etc.
The decision also aims to prevent the use of US technology in Chinese hypersonic missiles and military aircraft, Iranian drones, nuclear weapons, etc.
Thus, the export restrictions include companies that:

  • develop AI technologies, supercomputers and microchips for China's military-industrial complex;
  • work in the nuclear sector;
  • purchase US goods for China's military modernisation, particularly in the field of quantum technologies, for Iran's defence industry and UAV programmes;
  • participate in ballistic missile programmes;
  • sell products to other blacklisted companies;
  • are associated with the South African Flight Test Academy (TFASA), where the Chinese military is trained.

US companies will not be able to supply products to the blacklisted companies without government approval.
In NAKO's latest report on Russian glide bombs, researchers analysed the components of the universal planning and correction module (UMPK), which is the main part of the missile. According to NAKO, 71% of the UMPK's microelectronics comes from Western oriented manufacturers. Of the 22 manufacturers identified, 10 are in the United States and six in China.
