KITE Conference for Intelligence Experts: NAKO Executive Director Moderates Panel on the Role of Social Media in OSINT

Kite2025 1 1

On 23 September 2025, NAKO Executive Director Olena Tregub moderated the panel discussion “Can social media and messengers be ф reliable source for investigations?” as part of the Kyiv Intelligence & Technology Exchange (KITE) conference. The discussion featured Danylo Mokryk, journalist at The Kyiv Independent; Michael Sheldon, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Information Resilience; and Romanas Judinas, representative of Locked N Loaded.

Even small details in photos — such as a fragment of a patch or an element of the landscape — help investigators identify Russian war criminals. Participants emphasized that images shared on social media and messaging platforms become part of investigations and later form evidence that can help hold perpetrators accountable. Russians often carelessly post photos and videos, leaving traces that assist analysts in gathering valuable information.
Representing different countries, all panelists noted that they are deeply engaged in researching events in Ukraine. Lithuanian expert Romanas Judinas shared that his team strives to show the world the truth about the war through social media, even despite temporary account blocks for showing Russian casualties.

The first closed OSINT and intelligence conference KITE (Kyiv Intelligence & Technology Exchange), organized by Molfar Intelligence Institute, brought together over 500 participants — including representatives from the public and private sectors, military personnel, and experts. The conference covered cooperation between government and private sectors in intelligence, OSINT in modern intelligence practices, social engineering, and cyberattacks. KITE’s program included various formats, from panel discussions to an OSINT tournament with over 100 participants. In addition, the conference featured startup presentations and a technology solutions exhibition.
