Almost two-thirds of respondents who took a poll by Rating sociological group have a positive attitude towards women in the military service. What concerns inequalities between women and men in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is either very rare or significantly rare, according to 35 and 32 % of the surveyed. Only 6 % of the poll participants know these inequalities are widespread.
At the same time, 37 % of the polled are positive that “the main calling for a woman is to become a mother,” with 22 % more “rather agreeing” with such a statement.
According to Liubomyr Mysiv, Rating Group Deputy Director, in this regard, our society remains conservative. Although a half of the polled are positive and another 31 % are prone to thinking that a woman can be a unit commander, that is evidence of the societal change. “This image has already permeated into media, for earlier a woman could be either a military nurse or a clerk,” he said.
In general, Rating experts surveyed 2,000 respondents in all regions, except for the occupied Crimean Peninsula and districts of Donbas. Apart from inequality between women and men in the military and gender stereotypes, the sociologists asked people’s opinion on the national minorities and LGBT in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Within the research commissioned by the Ukrainian Veterans Foundation and NAKO, the experts analyzed the risks of discrimination of various social groups in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
