Match weaker oil sanctions with stricter limits on other Russian goods, expert urges UK

Skynews

The UK government should offset its watered-down sanctions on Russian oil by making them stricter in other areas, Olena Tregub told Sky News.

Under the revised sanctions policy, the UK will allow imports of oil products refined in third countries using Russian-origin crude. Tregub called the decision “upsetting,” warning that every profit made from such sales helps finance Russia’s war against Ukraine.

At the same time, she stressed that London could compensate for the move by introducing stricter sanctions on semiconductors, dual-use goods used in Russian weapons production, and Russia’s shadow fleet.
